Equivest in Urdu (beta): how to switch
Flip the app to اردو from Settings. High-visibility strings translate first; the full string sweep is rolling out.

Equivest now ships with اردو support in beta.
How to switch
- Open Settings (Profile tab → Settings).
- The top card is LANGUAGE.
- Tap اردو — the app re-renders immediately. Tap English to switch back.
- Your choice persists across restarts.
What’s translated today
Fully wired:
- Bottom-nav tab labels — ہوم · مارکیٹس · سوشل · پورٹفولیو · نیوز
- Settings section titles — ترجیحات · پرائیویسی · الرٹس · مارکیٹس · اسلامی مالیات · ڈیٹا · زبان
- ~80 finance vocabulary terms (cash dividend → نقد منافع, bonus issue → بونس شیئر, zakatable wealth → قابل زکوۃ مال, etc.)
Not yet fully translated (Tier 2 string sweep is queued):
- Home screen body text
- Stock Detail screen labels
- Onboarding slides
- Help center articles (each article will get a
/ur/...mirror)
When you encounter an English string in a Urdu session, that’s a known gap. Equivest’s localization system is built so every string flows through the same dictionary — adding a translation is mechanical, not architectural.
Translation philosophy
We chose natural-sounding Urdu, not transliteration:

Pakistani finance vocabulary has settled on certain English loan words (e.g. “Right Shares”, “Lot Size”) — we keep those untranslated where they’re more familiar. Where clean Urdu equivalents exist and are more readable, we use the Urdu term.
RTL layout
Today: Urdu strings render right-to-left in their own text boxes, but the overall app layout stays left-to-right. The full layout flip (status bar, icons, scroll direction, dialogs) is on the Tier 2 roadmap — a single Directionality wrap that we’ll ship once we’ve sanity-checked every screen.
Why we shipped beta now
- The substrate is in place, so adding more strings is mechanical work, not architecture.
- Pakistani users have been asking for Urdu since launch. Shipping beta beats waiting.
- The visible strings (tabs + Settings labels) are the ones users encounter every single session — translating those is the highest-leverage 80%.
